I'd say Wade Boggs, and it wouldn't even be close. Obviously his power numbers were drab compared to the others, but his average is at least 16 points higher than any of the others. His ability to put the ball in play was fantastic. His career OBP is .415. By reference, that number would have made him 4th in all of MLB for 2009. (And he did that over 18 seasons).
The others are all great hitters, but I think it's Boggs by a margin.
PS - George Brett is my second best hitter in the group... 1980 was an historically monstrous year for him.
