They’re two clubs that don’t try to pick up the pace. They’re two of the best teams in baseball. Why are they playing the slowest?…It’s pathetic and embarrassing. They take too long to play.I think that fat bastard just answered his own question. When two of the top three offenses in baseball (last year at least) get together it’s bound to elongate the games. Plus, with all the runs and what-not there is going to be more pitching changes, which makes the games longer. Get over it. If you don’t like get in another line of work. Try and find a job where you can work three hours a day watching baseball and get paid handsomely.
Furthermore, I don’t feel safe with this guy umping Yanks games anymore. If he hates the Yanks and Sox so much who’s to say he’s going to call a fair game if they’re playing? Also, if he wants to speed up the games, maybe he calls a few balls strikes and intentionally f’s up some other calls. If I were Cash or Theo I’d get on the horn with Bud Selig to try and keep him away from my team’s games. I don’t trust him one bit anymore.
Obviously, Mo has to be the voice of reason here. Mo did everything short of telling that fat bastard to go f*ck himself. Take it away Mo:
It’s incredible. If he has places to go, let him do something else. What does he want us to do, swing at balls? He has a job to do. He should do his job. We don’t want to play four-hour games but that’s what it takes. We respect and love the fans and do what we have to do and that’s play our game.
Boom. Roasted.
I can see where Joey’s coming from; nobody wants to sit through 4-hour games, not even the players. You think these athletes want to be out there when they can be frequenting strip clubs, getting drunk and/or chasing some out-of-town poon? No chance. But that’s the line of work they chose, so they deal with it like a man. Plus, we fans hate having to sit through these marathon games. It’s no fun for anyone, but what can you do? You sac up and handle your business.
Do you think this kind of shit would fly in any other line of work? While at the office tomorrow tell your boss to hurry up and send that fax, or tell Suzy from two cubicles over to shake a leg with those TPS reports, or tell your supervisor you have to get to happy hour and can’t stay late to finish that project. See if you still have a job the next day.
Ah, yes... The Cowboy doing what he does best... put his foot in his mouth.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very interesting story. Joe West is one of the most recognizable names of an umpire in the game - if you actually watch baseball - and to hear something like this come from him is surprising. Wouldn't you think he'd be loving to call a four hour game between sports' best rivalry? I would die for an opportunity like that. Now, if it was the Pirates and Nationals, maybe I am with West, but this is a completely different story. I think you are being a little harsh though with West, because he is a very good umpire, though he definitely shouldn't have said what he said. I wonder what the perception of his comment is like to other Yankees and Red Sox players. Also, interesting analogy in the last paragraph with regular jobs today. Thanks for posting this. It was quite enjoyable.
